Atkin Chambers has raided 4 Pump Court for top silk David Sears QC in the week it saw its first barrister, Robert Akenhead QC, join the High Court bench.
Sears, who took silk in 2003, made the move as he wanted to grow his construction and professional negligence practice and felt that Atkin was a more appropriate setting in which to do this.
Atkin senior clerk Simon Slattery said Sears joining the chambers was not part of any specific hiring spree as the set is looking to grow organically.
“With chambers having one of the leading constructionbased professional negligence practices it was a natural progression for David to join us,” added Slattery.
Meanwhile, Akenhead has become Atkin’s first High Court appointment and is set to be sworn in on 2 October and will start sitting the following day.
On Akenhead’s appointment, Slattery said: “We’ve had several of our barristers join the TCC [Technology and Construction Court], but Robert is the first to go to the High Court.
“He’ll be missed at chambers, but we’re proud and delighted of his appointment.”
