Chicago-based bank Northern Trust has hired David Curtin to lead its legal team in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Curtin joins the fund manager from Aspen Insurance Holdings where he had been group general counsel since 2003.
At Northern Trust, he will take on the new role of general counsel international and assistant general counsel for the corporation, managing the London-based legal department.
Curtin will head a team of 11 lawyers, with nine based in London and one each in Ireland and Guernsey. He will report to Chicago-based general counsel Kelly Welsh.
Welsh said: “David will be supported by a growing team of lawyers responsible for our three main business groups areas in EMEA – asset servicing, asset management and wealth management.”
Curtin began his career in 1985 at Bingham Dana & Gould in Boston before joining Jones Day and working in New York and London.
Prior to joining Aspen Insurance, he spent a number of years in the in-house department of ICO Global Communications Ltd, rising to become general counsel.
Northern Trust has international offices in 13 locations across the EMEA region and manages funds totalling more than $750bn.
