A City competition lawyer at Ashurst Morris Crisp is the only solicitor advocate to be appointed Queen's Counsel in this year's silks list.
Mark Clough, partner in EC and competition law, receives silk over seven other solicitor applicants, and becomes the fifth in-house advocate.
Nigel Parr, head of the EC and competition group at Ashursts, says Clough has years of experience of practising in front of the European Court of First Instance and the European Court of Justice.
Parr says: “His appointment is particularly relevant for the introduction of the Competition Act 1998, where solicitors may feel the need for heavier representation.”
Clough practised as a barrister for more than 10 years before joining Ashursts in 1996.
Clough was unavailable for comment when The Lawyer went to press.
