Ashurst Morris Crisp has taken on Andersen Legal's senior tax partner in a move to bolster its Frankfurt office.
Dr Klaus E Herkenroth, who was with Andersens in Frankfurt for only eight months, joined Ashursts on 15 April.
Herkenroth's arrival coincides with the appointment of Dr Wulf Merkel, a senior lawyer specialising in mergers and acquisitions, who joins the firm after eight years as a partner at Frankfurt-based Schurmann & Partners.
Commenting on Herkenroth's swift move from Andersens, Graeme Ward, managing partner at Ashursts' Frankfurt office, says: "I imagine that he wanted to become part of an integrated European law group and Ashursts persuaded him that we could offer it to him."
Merkel had been at the top 20 German firm Schurmanns for all his professional life, but a source says: "He felt that the firm didn't develop as it should and hasn't reached its full potential."
As exclusively revealed in The Lawyer in February, Geoffrey Green, senior partner at Ashursts, said he intended to double its number of lawyers in Frankfurt to 20 by the end of the year.
The appointments will double Ashursts' partner count to four, but Ward adds: "It is unlikely that it will stay at that number."
