Ashurst has appointed Jon Ericson as its new Swedish managing partner following the departure of former Stockholm head Jonas Bergh.
Bergh was appointed to launch Ashurst’s Swedish office in 2007 when it merged with his own independent operation AJB Bergh.
He is understood to have returned to working for his own practice, the newly created Jonas Bergh Advokatbyrå. Stockholm corporate partner Carolina Tendorf has also left Ashurst.
The moves leave the Stockholm practice with just three partners among a total lawyer headcount of 26.
Ericson joined Ashurst in 2008, having been associate director at Nordea Bank’s corporate finance arm.
Despite the losses, Ashurst senior partner Charlie Geffen said the Swedish operation was “still very strong”, adding that the firm would look to bring in an additional partner if the right candidate was identified.
News of the departures comes after a summer in which Linklaters’ Stockholm office was also rumoured to be under threat following the exit of seven partners between May 2008 and June this year.
