This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Ashurst has promoted 12 lawyers to its partnership, with only three of the new partners based in London.
The number is one up on last year, when the firm made up 11 partners, six of whom were promoted in the City.
Corporate is by far the best-represented practice group this year, with five new partners being promoted as of 1 May. Finance has two new partners, with a further one each coming from the antitrust, dispute resolution, energy, infrastructure and real estate departments.
Despite a reduced round for the City, London remains the office with the most promotions. Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt and Madrid will all see two added to the partnership, with one each in Dubai, Paris and Stockholm.
Senior partner Charlie Geffen said in a statement: “The quality of our partners this year is strong and we’re pleased to be promoting in such a broad range of practice areas. We congratulate each of the new partners on their promotion. We’re confident that they’ll make a great contribution to the business by taking our existing strengths to new markets and helping create new business in existing markets.”
Only one of the new partners is female - Dubai energy specialist Judith Kim. This follows an all-male promotion round in 2010 and the elevation of only one female lawyer to the partnership in the 10-strong round of 2009. That means that just two of the last 33 partner promotions have been female - the equivalent of 6 per cent.
Overall, 14 per cent of the Ashurst partnership is now female, while 45 per cent is now based away from its London HQ.
