Ashurst makes rare senior appointment

Ashurst has made the first hire into its City corporate department since 2008 with the capture of Nabarro financial services regulation head Rob Moulton.

Moulton joined Nabarro as a partner in 2005 from Linklaters, where he had been a senior associate. He will work alongside international regulatory group head James Perry to grow Ashurst’s non-contentious regulatory practice.

The hire has emphasised Ashurst’s renewed push into the financial services regulation space and comes after financial services partner Margaret Sheehan joined the firm’s Washington DC office from Alston & Bird in March.

Perry said: “Rob’s an individual who’s got exactly the qualities and skill set we would want. He’s got a strong existing set of contacts that we hope to benefit from.”

Moulton, who will join his new firm in November, has a stable of investment banking and broker clients, including existing Ashurst clients Investec, JPMorgan and Oriel Securities.

“We want to build the practice and he’s the right guy to do it,” added Perry. “He’s got a reputation as a rising star and I think that’s exactly what we’ve got.”

The last partner-level hire into the London corporate team was communications group head Dhana Doobay, who joined from Clifford Chance in 2008.
