Silver circle law firm Ashurst has reversed the trend of partners moving from UK to US firms by scooping McDermott Will & Emery's London head of pensions and employee benefits.
Steven Hull joins Ashurst as a partner to head the firm's growing pensions practice. His hire bolsters the team to seven fee-earners.
Hull led McDermott's pensions and employee benefits department since its inception five years ago. His departure leaves the US firm with a pensions and employee benefits capability of just one partner and three other of counsel and associates.
Ashurst head of employment, employee benefits and incentives and pensions Caroline Carter said the hire was in line with the firm's strategy to bolster its pensions capability, with further laterals currently being investigated.
It is Ashurst's sixth lateral in three months, following those of Tom Beckerhoff in Frankfurt from Norton Rose, María José Menéndez in Madrid from Clifford Chance and Philip Thomson in London from Linklaters.
