Ashurst is to open a second Italian office after raiding Dewey & LeBoeuf and local firm NCTM for the launch of a three-partner practice in Rome.
Corporate partner Francesco De Gennaro and antitrust partner Domenico Gullo and have joined from NCTM, while Dewey real estate partner Carmine Bruno completes the trio. They will be joined by 10 associates.
The opening comes a little over a year after the City firm began bulking up its Italian practice with the hire of Ilario Giangrossi from Pedersoli & Associati in Milan and the dual hire of Dewey partners Ugo Giordano and Fabio Pizzoccheri on its London-based Italian desk.
As a result of the new office, Milan chief Franco Vigliano has become head of Italy at the firm, while Mark Sperotto, also based in Milan, has become Italian managing partner.
Senior partner Charlie Geffen said: “We’re confident that opening an office in Rome will increase the strength of our practice in Italy and this team will help us to widen our existing client relationships as well as develop new ones.
“Ashurst has made significant progress in developing its international strategy over recent years. Italy remains an important market for us where we’ll remain focused on financial, infrastructure and corporate work.”
