Ashurst boosts derivatives team with W&C and BNP Paribas hires

Ashurst has strengthened its securities and structured finance team with the dual hire of derivatives partners from White & Case and BNP Paribas.

In an internal announcement to partners early this afternoon the silver circle firm revealed that Chris Whiteley and James Coiley are to join from White & Case and BNP Paribas respectively.

Coiley, who specialises in structured credit derivatives and credit CPPI, was previously head of structured derivative products in the legal and transaction management department at BNP Paribas. He rejoins Ashurst after previously being an associate at the firm prior to his move in-house.

Whiteley, as specialist in OTC derivative transactions, has been a counsel in White & Case’s banking and capital markets group since June 2005. Prior to joining the US firm he worked in JP Morgan’s credit portfolio group and rates marketing team.

Erica Handling, head of Ashurst’s securities and structured finance team, said the hires were in line with the firm’s growth stratgey for the securities and structured finance practice.

It also follows the hires of partners Simon Small from Linklaters and Fraser Wood from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in securitisation in 2005, and Anna Delgado’s promotion to the partnership in debt capital markets in 2006.
