Ashfords and Rochman Landau merge to create £30m firm

The deal, which will see the combined firm operate under the Ashfords brand, has created a firm with almost 500 members of staff and turnover of around £30m. News of the firms’ merger discussions was first reported in February (7 February 2012).

Exeter’s Ashfords was the much larger of the two firms, with offices in Bristol, London, Plymouth, Taunton and Tiverton, and turnover of around £24m. Rochman Landau is based in London and has 35 lawyers, including trainees. The firm will accommodate Ashford’s smaller London team in its Baker Street offices.

In a statement, Ashfords chief executive, Ian Daniells said: “This is a major step forward in the development of Ashfords LLP. Rochman Landau is an established and highly respected practice with international capabilities and expertise, which are complementary to our own.

“We’ve been aiming for some time to expand our presence in London as our client base and work emanating from London and abroad has been increasing. Rochman Landau provides the ideal solution. Together we’re able to offer a more comprehensive service to clients.”

Ashfords was previously part of Bevan Ashford, which demerged in 2004 to create Bevan Brittan and Ashfords (1 November 2004).
