Tulkinghorn would like to congratulate Irwin Mitchell for putting a human face to corporate law.

One of Tulkinghorn’s scribes requested some information about a ­partner the firm had lately hired – John Hayes from Davenport Lyons.

As well as the usual guff about his practice, Irwin Mitchell tendered the ­following biographical nugget: “Away from work, John is a member of the Scotch Malt Whisky ­Society and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He speaks good Spanish, having lived in Peru for a year, and is an Arsenal season ticket holder.”

So he likes drinking and football, then? Nice work, John.
