This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Employment boutique Archon Solicitors has made a space for itself in the employment market.
The firm counts The Park Lane Hotel, The Dorchester and Prada UK among its clients, and since launching looks to have carved a niche in giving specialist employment advice to quality brands. “We’re City-based but have a broad range of top-end employers as clients,” says partner Rob McCreath. “These are clients who want lawyers to give strategic advice.”
The firm was established in the mid-1990s and has grown organically into a five-partner outfit. The original three partners all have City backgrounds. McCreath, who specialises in higher education and public sector work, joined from Eversheds in 2004, having trained with partner Nick Ralph at Ashurst, who joined the firm in 1997.
Corinne Aldridge, who works alongside Ralph in the financial services sector, was once a partner at Denton Wilde Sapte. Partners Jill Scott and James Williams, who were promoted earlier this year, joined the firm from Eversheds and Hammonds respectively.
The firm has a flat structure, with each partner taking responsibility for different aspects of the management functions. This means there is no specific managing partner position; instead McCreath is responsible for business development, Aldridge for finance control, Ralph for compliance, Williams for IT and Scott for HR. According to McCreath the system makes for a more “collegiate” partnership, which forms the basis for organic growth. “We take a collegiate approach to the management of the firm,” McCreath says. “There are no overbearing personalities amongst the partners and the management work is divided up by agreement.”
