A&O promotions fall with just 16 made up

Allen & Overy (A&O) has unveiled its smallest partnership promotions round in years with 16 being taken into the fold.

The promotions compare to a high of 33 partners made up in 2006, a figure which has gradually declined over the years and dropped to 19 last year (11 April 2013).

The firm’s international capital markets saw the biggest intake this year, with six made up across A&O’s global network. The practice has been boosted by new partners in, among other jurisdictions, Australia, Hong Kong, the US and UK.

London saw the largest number of new partners with five promoted, while Hong Kong added three to the partnership.

Just two female partners, Amsterdam-based Katinka Middelkoop and London-based Alice Englehart, are included in the round.

Managing partner Wim Dejonghe said in a statement: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome these talented individuals to the partnership. This is a major achievement in any lawyer’s career, but their deep understanding of their clients and markets, their expertise and enthusiasm make them excellent candidates.”
