Gemma Westacott Allen & Overy's (A&O) Spanish arm has lost the deputy head of its public law and regulated sectors practice to Clifford Chance.
A&O senior associate Jaime Velázquez Vioque is joining Clifford Chance's Barcelona office as a partner to head its Spanish corporate and finance practice.
His departure follows the resignation of Madrid-based corporate partner Fernando Torrente, who quit earlier in the month to rejoin Cuatrecasas just three years after he joined A&O from the Spanish independent.
Clifford Chance, meanwhile, has boosted Spain with the hire of Vioque and Javier García de Enterría from the Autonomous University of Madrid. The latter will be joined by partner Pablo Bieger, who returns to Madrid to head up Clifford Chance's capital markets practice in Spain after being seconded to Barcelona since 2000.
