A&O fortifies Shanghai with White & Case chief

Allen & Overy (A&O) has raided White & Case to boost its Shanghai office.

As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com (15 March) Victor Ho, who launched White & Case’s Shanghai office in 2000 and who has run it ever since, last week joined A&O as a partner.

Ho, a US-qualified lawyer, has experience in cross-border M&A, joint ventures, direct investments, private equity, venture capital and general corporate and commercial advisory work across a variety of sectors on the mainland.

His recent experience includes advising the AIG Corporation on the launch of its fund management joint venture with Huatai Securities and acting for Prudential on the creation of its fund management joint venture with Everbright Securities.

Commenting on Ho’s appointment, Simon Black, managing partner of A&O’s Shanghai office, said: “Victor’s arrival is an important step in our expansion plan in the PRC [People’s Republic of China] and we fully expect to devote more resources in China in the coming months.”

Before White & Case, Ho worked at Baker & McKenzie in Shanghai and Hong Kong for more than five years.

With Ho’s arrival, A&O’s China practice now boasts more than 70 lawyers in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
