Allen & Overy has elected Dirk Meeus as Belgian chief following the promotion of Wim Dejonghe to global managing partner.
Meeus has been head of corporate in Belgium since 2001 and takes over from Dejonghe as Belgian managing partner on May 1.
Meeus said: "I was honoured to have been asked to put myself forward for the role by my fellow partners. With seven years experience as head of the Belgian corporate practice I am ready for this next challenge."
He joined A&O from the now defunct Loeff Claeys Verbeke firm in 2001. Meeus has been a member of the international corporate department management board since 2001.
Dejonghe will be the first partner outside of London to lead the firm, after beating London finance partner and management board member Boyan Wells to the role. He will now move to London to lead the magic circle firm.
