NICK Cooper has scored the top legal job at Cable & Wireless (C&W) following the shock departure of general counsel Andrew Garard.
C&W’s former general counsel and company secretary Andrew Garard has left the company after 18 months “to seek new challenges following the successful resolution of a number of legal proceedings,” according to a company spokesman.
Cooper was general counsel and company secretary of Energis, which was acquired by C&W in August 2005 for £780m.
C&W has undergone a series of changes to its senior legal staff in recent years, with the 2003 departure of global head of legal Dan Fitz following a management shake-up.
Garard replaced Fitz, joining from Reuters in July 2003. He oversaw a downsizing of the legal department with compulsory redundancies affecting about a third of the department in 2004.
