Angel joins PM on 100-strong India business delegation

Cameron arrived in Mumbai today (18 February) with a delegation of more than 100 business representatives, universities, ministers and MPs. The trip will last three days. Angel, who is also DLA Piper’s global co-chairman, is one of only two law firm representatives going on the trip, in a delegation that also includes KPMG, Rolls-Royce and the Blackstone Group. The other law firm is Dutton Gregory Solicitors, which is represented by its India business group head Amarjit Singh, who also co-chairman of the Solent India Business Network.

Developing DLA Piper’s links with India has been part of Angel’s portfolio since his joined the firm in early 2012 (26 October 2011). A DLA Piper spokesman denied that the firm has an interest in using the trip to scout outsourcing opportunities, adding that it is more a chance to build business links.

According to a statement from DLA Piper, this is the largest single business delegation taken to any country to date by a UK administration.

“We’re committed to supporting Indian enterprises grow and manage their global operations as well as supporting our clients who wish to do business in this vibrant, dynamic and rapidly growing economy.”

In 2010, DLA Piper co-managing partner Nigel Knowles joined Cameron as part of an entourage of business leaders on a trip to China. In 2011, meanwhile, Allen & Overy senior partner David Morley and Eversheds managing partner Lee Ranson joined Cameron on a business trip to Russia (12 September 2011).
