What was your first-ever job? Being a white van man during university vacations.
What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Early in my media seat, trying desperately to avoid giving legal advice to a TV journalist minutes before a live broadcast. I never did get my head around libel.
Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
My PA’s desk.
What time do you usually leave the office?
Any time from 7.30pm onwards.
What do you do at weekends?
Attempt to cook a Jamie’s 30-minute meal in under one hour 45 minutes - my current record, which involved cutting out one course.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Hache in Camden Town, for its burgers.
If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?
Airline pilot/landscape gardener/professional golfer/fantasist.
What’s your favourite film?
Top Gun for the long list of quotable quotes.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Probably something by The Wombles. (Musical taste has never been a strong point.)
Who’s your hero and why?
Whoever created the TV channel Dave.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Working with a great team and doing interesting deals around the world.
What’s the toughest thing about your job?
The relentless demands on your time.
What’s your biggest work/ career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Faxing board minutes to effect the immediate termination of a director to the company, only for the director in question to find the fax on the machine. Lesson: don’t send faxes without checking who’s standing by the machine.
What car do you drive?
BMW 3 series coupé.
What book are you reading?
The Golf Delusion: Why 9 out of 10 Golfers make the Same Mistakes by Steve Gould and David Wilkinson.
What’s your favourite children’s book?
I don’t have children and it’s been rather a long time since anyone read to me, so it will have to be a DVD - probably Toy Story.
What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
It has to be the buyout of Club 18-30 by a consortium of private equity and mezzanine funds. I ran the due diligence process.
If you were stranded on a desert island what two luxury items would you take?
A floating gin palace and a helicopter.
What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
The Lowry in Salford Quays - far too close to the dreaded Old Trafford for the Liverpool fan in me.
What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?
George Clooney, because we look so similar.
Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
I’m a pretty easy-going kind of chap, so I hope I could survive with most people. (Well, that’s my PC answer and I’m sticking to it.)
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)
Gordon Ramsay once swore at me on TV; I could have had a professional singing career; my girlfriend has four kidneys.
