This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
It also follows the firm’s decision to sell off its claims group to DAC Beachcroft and Berrymans Lace Mawer (BLM) at the end of last year (15 November 2013). Morgan Cole has been aiming to realign its practice to focus on health clients ever since. Richards’ promotion will aid that goal, with like NHS England and the Department of Health. Greig is head of succession, wills and tax in the Thames Valley, having joined the firm in 2007.
Offloading its claims group was designed to refocus the firm’s insurance practice, leaving teams in place to act for general insurers, local authorities, health clients and self-insured businesses and brokers. The firm is understood to be reshuffling lawyers around its offices in advance of a Swansea office move planned later this year.
The firm has made 22 promotions in total across its offices in Swansea, Cardiff, Reading and Oxford but has launched a Swansea redundancy consultation affecting its support workers (2 April 2014).
The consultation follows on from the transfer of the two teams to DACB and BLM. When the firm ties up with Blake Lapthorn in July this year it will have a total of 120 partners, a total of 900 employees and a combined annual turnover of £72 million.
