  • The way these rankings fluctuate so much year-on-year leads me to conclude that the methodology and sampling is flawed. The market does not change as rapidly as these rankings would suggest – market share and sentiment change relatively slowly in any market including the UK legal sector. I would also point out that a company with a turnover of just £25m (the lower limit for this survey) is relatively small fry for one of the City big boys!

  • The methodology must be flawed: everyone knows Bond Dickinson are the most popular law firm with in-house lawyers. We love a client contact partner who starts a baseless rumour about us because he feels we're not giving him enough work. It makes us feel loved.

  • The London rankings seem about right. The survey seems to focus on top-tier M&A and top-tier Litigation - both are areas Freshfields are somewhat pre-eminent in with the rest of the MC closely behind.

UK rankings seem odd though - Eversheds and Pinsents in 2nd and 3rd place?
