  • Is there an English translation of this press release? So licences to assign will be done Oop North? Visionary stuff...

  • Babelfish translation:

"We're gunna get paralegals to do all the work we can't be bothered to do for a tenner, up North, and pay them pennies, pocketing the difference. God bless."

  • Cor, when I was going through the ranks, the character of a law firm was pretty binary - get clients, bill, get more clients, bill. If you did that well enough the firm grew and you got promoted. Now....hubs, north-shoring, outsourcing, on-call, LoD, temporary teams etc. I wouldn't have a clue how to fashion a private practice career these days.

  • To an outsider, it is a mystery why there has been no move to change management-- the firm's downward trajectory increases with every announcement.

  • It looks a bit desperate.

First, take on a group of ex Magic Circle Partners, presumably on big money, to try to compete for high end work, then open up in Manchester to try to compete with Eversheds and Pinsents?

  • Process mapping in a Manchester office staffed by paralegals? Never heard of that before... Very newsworthy and original.

  • Comedic and illustrative of the total lack of awareness of what the competition has been doing for the past 10-15 years or more. BLP probably don't realise that there are national firms out there who have been doing this effectively (and without fanfare) for all of that time (and nicking their work and clients in so doing).

"The launch of the onshore centre in Manchester will kickstart the development of the ‘integrated client service model’ in the summer, BLP said."

Most other firms would just announce that they are opening a Manchester office. I wonder what they are paying their PR consultants.
