Recently I took a trip around Jones Day’s London office. Stay with me, it was more exciting than it sounds. Not only did a fire alarm empty the building’s inhabitants out onto the chilly street, on the inside the exposed walls and hanging wires confirmed that a big chunk of the US firm’s floorspace at 21 Tudor Street is literally a work in progress. Most things property related are usually a major headache for a law firm. Just ask Camerons, which has finally plumped for a new home after a spot of naval gazing.
Getting your real estate right is where a top-notch management team comes in. At Jones Day, the partial building site of an office is one of the consequences of its rapid expansion in London, with the firm currently mid-way though a major refurbishment of both its London HQ and international office network. The firm’s London office administrator Peter Cross reveals all here.
Elsewhere, while predictive coding rears its head in an article from Nuix CEO James Kent, it has also been a week that has seen some big-hitting moves amongst senior operations people in law firms. Yesterday came news that Davenport Lyons had appointed Richard Williams, the former finance director at both Lawrence Graham and CPA Global, as its first chief executive officer while today we report that former Simmons & Simmons tech supremo Abby Ewen has jumped ship for Berrymans Lace Mawer.
Finally a reminder that the deadline for entries to the inaugural The Lawyer Management awards is looming. There’s still time to make sure your senior operational staff are recognised this September, but as with most things these days, time is getting short.
