Russell Jones & Walker (RJW) is to expand rapidly the number of consumer products promoted through Claims Direct to compete with the arrival of alternative business structures (ABS) in the consumer markets.
The claims management non-profitmaking subsidiary of RJW collects personal injury (PI) claims and divides them between the firm and a panel of 35 others.
RJW said it would launch employment, family and probate matters through Claims Direct, with most work being kept in-house.
RJW chief executive Neil Kinsella said: “People know and trust Claims Direct, and have said they’d be happy to contact it about legal issues other than PI claims.”
The move is seen as a precursor to the launch of RJW as a consumer firm to compete with the likes of Co-op Legal Services. RJW is under pressure to boost its presence on the high street after QualitySolicitors’ cash injection from Palamon Capital Partners (TheLawyer.com, 20 October).
Marketing director Andy Hoe said: “We want to be the number one provider of personal law services. This is about positioning us for an ABS and considering how we might operate two brands in the consumer markets.”
