  • I don't understand how the estate is liable for death duties on Matthew's death. He was Robert's heir, so as Robert is still alive, Matthew never inherited. On his death his son George becomes Robert's heir. The entail of the estate was central to Matthew's role in Downton so why now can Mary inherite a share of the estate? Have I missed some explaination?
