  • US privacy and consumer NGOs strongly support a new EU Regulation on data protection. Without it, the growing commercial and governmental surveillance of EU citizens will continue. Nearly all US NGOs believe the U.S. has failed to protect the privacy of its consumers and citizens, and that the Commerce Department (and industry dominated) plan is a failure. There hasn't been real advances in transparency--something that anyone that closely follows the industry knows. The industry should stop working to weaken the EU data Regulation--and focus on getting its ever-growing data collection apparatus under control.
