  • Joining the eurozone is like walking into a house full of plague victims. Everyone in the house is ill or dying, except the doctor, and the doctor is Germany. Anybody voluntarily joining the eurozone has to be bat**** crazy.

  • The reaction against the gold mine is not merely an environmental one, though this is one of the motivators. The reason that most people are opposed is that they perceive it as a way of taking resources out of Romania without benefiting the country - the people who are perceived to benefit are Gabriel Resources, a Canadian based multinational, and the corrupt politicians who are trying to push through the deal and who are presumed to be personally benefiting from it. The environmental concerns are strong and valid, but the real reason for the opposition from the majority is the sense of being ribbed blind
