The world’s largest biotechnology company Amgen has appointed David Scott as its new senior vice-president, general counsel and secretary.
In his new role, Scott will oversee the development of Amgen’s legal strategy in order to protect the company’s intellectual property and to maximise its opportunities to market products and serve patients. Scott’s legal career spans more than 25 years and includes experience in both the US and the UK. He is currently serving as the senior vice-president, general counsel and secretary at Minneapolis-based medical technology company Medtronic.
Previously, he was general counsel of United Distillers & Vintners in London and senior vice-president and general counsel for International Distillers and Vintners, also in London.
Scott has also held US-based positions with RJR Nabisco and Grand Metropolitan.
Scott, who will be based in California, is replacing Steve Odre, who will stay on at Amgen in an ongoing advisory role. Meanwhile, Scott is being replaced by Ronald Lund, who is rejoining Medtronic after retiring from the company in 1999.
