Atlanta firm Alston & Bird is taking over New York-based boutique Walter Conston Alexander & Green.
The move will give the 500-lawyer firm its first foothold in the city, as well as adding a liaison office in Munich.
Walter Conston is a 21-partner, 45-lawyer firm with a client base focused on European pharmaceutical, media, technology and telecoms companies. Clients include Bertelsmann, Beiersdorf, BMG Music and Doubleday Direct.
Alston & Bird, which also has offices in Washington DC and North Carolina, is a full service firm with particular strengths in intellectual property, securities and antitrust work.
Alston & Bird managing partner Ben Johnson says: "We felt like it was important for us [to open in New York] to better serve our existing New York-located clientele such as American Express, Verizon and Fortis. We felt we would be closer to the centre of the investment banking and financial community, and with this partner firm we would substantially increase our global window into Europe."
