Joanna Page and Richard Smith of Allen & Overy recently attended the ABA’s meeting of insurance coverage lawyers, which is held annually in Arizona in March.
Page was a speaker on an illustrious panel regarding ‘Bermuda Form’ arbitrations held in London under New York law and the legal and cultural differences experienced for both the US and English lawyers in these arbitrations.
The panel examined the history of the Bermuda Form, which is a specific type of insurance policy developed for very large insurance programmes. The typical Bermuda Form is governed by New York law but provides for arbitration in London.
Page, Smith, Richard Farnhill and Judith Gill QC are part of the small number of English lawyers who can demonstrate real expertise in representing policyholders in such arbitrations. Lauren Lindsay, Camilla Macpherson and Joanna Grant have also helped develop Allen & Overy’s practice in this area.
