’There’s no such thing as bad publicity’ might be the mantra inside Collyer Bristow towers this morning after another busy week at the firm.
It hit the headlines on Monday by knocking off the winning runs in the first-ever Twitter libel case on behalf of cricketer Chris Cairns. Partner Rhory Robertson was even interviewed on the court steps after the victory.
But a week is a long time in any profession.
Today Collyer Bristow is back in the news over its involvement in the administration of Rangers FC, which has more twists and turns than the River Clyde.
Partner and Rangers company secretary Gary Withey has left the firm, £3.6m has been transferred away from Collyer Bristow and now a date has been set for further claims against the firm.
The club’s administrators at Duff & Phelps say they have “substantially larger” claims to make against Collyer Bristow, with alleged professional negligence and breach of fiduciary duty understood to be among them.
All eyes are on 16 April - the court-set deadline for submissions - to see exactly what is coming the firm’s way.
