Akin Gump appoints CMS Russia real estate head

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has hired CMS Russia’s head of real estate Vlad Sourkov in a bid to build a local real estate practice.
Sourkov has joined Akin Gump as a partner and Russian real estate head, and is expected to be followed by several associates in due course.
He said he was attracted to Akin Gump by the firm’s Russian client base, seeing a “large number of synergies” between his clients and those of the US firm. Sourkov added that he was attracted by a new challenge after over a decade at CMS.
Sourkov represents both buyers and sellers of commercial real estate as well as banks and borrowings in construction financing and refinancing.
Recent deals include advising Siemens on a Russian real estate acquisition.
Akin Gump has not had a dedicated property team in Russia before, although some of its Moscow-based partners have acted on real estate transactions.
