This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Leading insurance group Aegon has created the new role of UK general counsel, hiring Shepherd & Wedderburn corporate partner Marian Glen (pictured) for the position.
Glen will report to Mark Laidlaw, Aegon UK's finance director, and have responsibility for the 12-lawyer UK team. She joins the company in the new year.
Stan Cook, head of group legal, will stay at Aegon and report into Glen. A spokesperson for the company said that Glen would also be the main point of contact for the Financial Services Authority (FSA), taking over that responsibility from Laidlaw.
Glen said: "It's been a testing year for the financial sector, but I'm looking forward to the challenges of my new role."
Glen joined Shepherd & Wedderburn in 1994 and became a corporate finance partner in 1996. Three years later she was appointed Glasgow head of corporate finance and became head of the firm's funds and financial services group in 2002.
During that time Glen worked on series of big deals, including an instruction from United Spirits on its £595m acquisition of whisky maker Whyte & Mackay.
