The fashion department at FHM (For Him Magazine) has a number of guidelines for looking your best.
Suits: for spring/summer '96, sharp tailoring will be one of the most important looks from designers such as Paul Smith. Single-breasted suits with peak lapels are hot, in vivid colours and checks. Double-breasted jackets are definitely a fashion no-no. Try wearing a single-breasted jacket with slim leg flat-fronted trousers.
Also look for labels such as Gucci and Prada, two of the hottest designs at the moment; Nicole Farhi for a new direction in slimline suits; and Giorgio/Emporio Armani for graphic black and white sophistication.
Other designers producing great single-breasted suits include CK by Calvin Klein, Cerrutti 1881, Dolce & Gabbana, Katharine Hamnett and DKNY. Black suits with black or white cotton shirts are a strong look, as shown by many of the designers already mentioned.
Ties this season should be plain, black, or white with a black single-breasted suit.
The 'Gucci' look will be strong, classic bold coloured cut away collar shirts such as cobalt blue, green or pink worn with a geometric shape tie. Ties in geometric shapes are available from traditional shops such as Aquascutum, Hackett and Austin Reed as well as Paul Smith.
For shirts look to everyone, from designers such as Gucci and Richard James to Marks & Spencer. Striped shirts are also available from the traditional outlets and designers such as Ralph Lauren and Katharine Hamnett. Striped shirts should be worn with plain silk ties in bold and bright colours.
Accessories should be kept to a minimum. Cufflinks should be quite simple and preferably in silver - try Tateossian, Paul Smith or many of the traditionalists. The British 'Savile Row' look will be strong again this summer, with many of the European and American designers looking to London for inspiration.
Mont Blanc pens are still the ones to be seen with. As far as watches go, try Jaeger le Coultre or IWC Porsche designs: classic styles as well as great quality.
