Addleshaw Goddard has moved quickly to secure non-exclusive relationships with two Indian firms following The Lawyer’s story (1 December 2008) revealing that the firm was developing an Indian referral network.
Addleshaws ;is ;now working with Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co and AZB & Partners. The firm has beaten the target set by managing partner Mark Jones to have a roster in place by summer 2009. The UK firm has already seconded a UK-based lawyer to AZB for a period of four months.
The relationships have been established by senior partner Paul Lee, chief operating officer Peter Smith and partners Stephen Houston and Claire Northcote. The firm has been advised by consultant David Birch, who is also helping Amarchand to internationalise its practice.
It is understood that Addleshaws will also be looking at opportunities with other Indian firms.

As an independent law firm we continue to expand our relationships which result in mutual references from across the globe. Prior to 2008 and before meetings with Mr. Paul Lee, Senior Partner, Mr. Mark Jones, Managing Partner and Mr. Peter Smith, Chief Operating Officer we had no work association with Addleshaw Goddard and we are happy to have expanded our referral base. We continue to enjoy significant and rewarding multiple referral relationships with Magic Circle firms and several other firms of UK and America.
For our firm an additional referral source is a happy yet routine event. We look forward to developing valued associations with several law firms quite independently just as Addleshaw would do, in the future.
