Addleshaws, Masons on Lancashire panels

Lancashire County Council has appointed Masons and Addleshaw Goddard for the first time as it begins a full revamp of its legal panels.

Head of legal services Ian Fisher has appointed the two firms to the commercial law panel and reappointed current advisers Irwin Mitchell and Eversheds.

Cobbetts, Hammonds, Nabarro Nathanson and Pinsents lost out in the beauty parade that was used to find the final four firms. Those eight firms were shortlisted after 40 firms from across the country applied for the panel.

The firms chosen for the commercial law panel will be asked to undertake a broad range of work, but had to show particular expertise in PPP/PFI. The council has a number of large projects to complete, including several
education and waste projects.

Panels for litigation, property, employment and child protection are currently being selected. Firms have been shortlisted for litigation and property and beauty parades will be conducted over the next few weeks.

The process was initiated two years ago, when the in-house team’s workload started to take off and the number of firms being used multiplied.
