Addleshaw Goddard is strengthening its data and information group with the hire of a freedom of information lawyer from the market research arm of Marsh & McLennan.
Mark Gleeson will join the firm as a partner from market research consultants Mercer, where he was an in-house lawyer advising on data and information issues.
Managing partner at Addleshaw Goddard, Mark Jones, explained that data protection is a significant part of the firm’s expertise.
“You find that those advising on data protection will not often feature as lead partners on deal reports, however we see that it is often a major component and an important part of the transaction,” Jones said.
Having worked in-house as head of data protection at Barclaycard and in the public sector as a legal adviser to London Underground, Jones said that Gleeson will bring the benefit of the client perspective.
Jones explained: “You find those with experience in-house can deal with transaction and issues with a very good understanding of what the client needs. Mark will be a great asset to the firm.”
