Hammond Suddards Edge has lost litigation partner Adam Aldred to Addleshaw Booth & Co.
Aldred, who will head the firm's trade and regulatory practice in Leeds, was a partner in the commercial dispute resolution department at Hammonds and is moving to Addleshaws to work solely on competition work. In 1995 he represented Asda and Dillons in the case involving the net book agreement, which ended in victory for the national chains after the minimum resale price was scrapped in the bookselling trade. Aldred will handle a mixture of contentious and non-contentious work at Addleshaws. He approached the firm after being informed that it was looking for a competition expert to manage its Leeds practice.

"I didn't have my antennae out for a new position," said Aldred. "It was more the case that I saw a good opportunity and took it." Aldred refused to disclose whether any clients will follow him from Hammonds. Hammonds operates a restrictive covenant, but Aldred stresses that clients were not an issue in his move because he will be working in a different practice area at his new firm. Hammonds head of commercial dispute resolution Peter Crossley said: "Adam is leaving to specialise in competition work. I'm sorry he's leaving and we wish him well. We're sorry to lose any partner, but we do have other people who specialise in his line of work. "With the downturn in the economy, we're noticing an upturn in litigation, so Adam will need to be replaced. It's more likely that this will be accomplished through internal promotion rather than with a lateral hire."
