Addleshaw Goddard accelerates growth in China with Hong Kong hires

Addleshaw Goddard has announced the hire of Nigel Francis, former head of litigation and employment at Minter Ellison, as head of its associated Hong Kong law firm operations, and five additional senior hires: Mike Melwood Smith, James Yeung, Ivan Chang, Winnie Wong and Dan Yang.

Francis joins Brett Stewien at Addleshaw Goddard’s associated Hong Kong practice following clearance earlier this year from the Law Society of Hong Kong for Addleshaw Goddard to add Hong Kong to its network of overseas offices in Dubai, Oman, Qatar and Singapore.

The office will have a total of 11 lawyers by the end of 2013.

Shipping expert Melwood Smith is the former head of DLA Piper’s Singapore office and will take up the role of consultant in Addleshaw Goddard’s Singapore office.

Of the additional hires, Yeung is a managing associate of litigation; Chang is a legal director of securities enforcement and compliance; Wong is an associate of employment and litigation; and Yang is a registered foreign lawyer (New South Wales, Australia) of corporate.
