Accountants held accountable

London's exclusive St James's Club is seeking £138,000 damages from BDO Stoy Hayward. It accuses the accountancy firm of failing to detect thefts by its former deputy manager and is seeking, inter alia, damages for alleged breach of contract and negligence, along with payment of the £122,531 which it says was stolen and a further £15,500 which it says was spent in management time dealing with the matter. The club says it paid the firm £2,900 a month between March 1995 and February 1997.
