Acas has published the final draft of the statutory code of practice that will govern the new extended right to request flexible working. The code remains concise and principles based, but is now accompanied by a more detailed non-statutory Acas guide. The extension to the right to request flexible working had been due to come into force on 6 April 2014; however, the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) has reportedly confirmed that this will be delayed until later in the year.
In February 2013, the government published the Children and Families Bill (CFB). The CFB is designed to implement some of the family-friendly proposals originally outlined in the Consultation on Modern Workplaces including the extension of the right to request flexible working for all employees and changes to the framework for considering such requests. Acas consulted on a draft statutory code of practice that would support the new system. The consultation closed on 20 May 2013.
