A lot to swallow

Even star lawyers can get their facts wrong from time to time, it appears.

Just before Christmas, star libel lawyer Geoffrey Robertson was down at the Royal Courts of Justice appearing for the Wall Street Journal in a libel appeal against certain Saudi Arabian heavyweights.

Robertson was regaling the jury with a tale about the classic 1970s film version of the Watergate scandal. Unfortunately, according to a source, he got the name of the Dustin Hoffman/Robert Redford vehicle wrong. Instead of All The President’s Men, he claimed the film was called Deep Throat. Robertson maintains he was making a play on words. Let’s hope so, because that’s an altogether different film, although its climax is just as good.
