8 King’s Street won’t be the last set to dissolve, there’s got to be at least a few other to go this way. Whether Manchester is best served with four, five or six big chambers remains to be seen.

It's sad to see the 8KS fall apart. For the rival sets though the merged chambers would have been a force to be reckoned with.

My chambers were keeping a close eye as we thought 18 and 8 together would have had the potentional to steal our work.
Can't say, apart from the fact it caused many upset, that I'm disappointed the merger didn't go through.

This is very sad as in the 1970s and 1980s, when at 601 The Royal Echange (and before that at Chapel Walks) this was one of the premier civil/commercial sets ouside London producing a string of well known and respected judges and silks. Some regarded it as the premier set. Other chambers seem to have grown while it seems to have remained relatively static.
