Bar top 30 position: 26
3PB (formally 3 Paper Buildings) is one of the largest and most well-established sets in England, dating back to 1892. The set operates across five cities: Bournemouth, Bristol, Oxford, Winchester and London. Each location is technologically equipped to allow 3PB to operate as a single set.
3PB is led by Ian Lawrie QC, head of chambers, while Stephen Clark leads a team of Temple-trained clerks. The chambers’ expertise is divided into 10 specialist practice groups and the set encourages the crossover of knowledge and expertise as a consequence of its geographical spread.
3PB’s crime practice is the largest of the specialist groups with seven of the sets’ 10 QCs practising in it. Michael Vere-Hodge QC is practice head and deputy head of chambers and he is joined by fellow silks and leading barristers Nigel Lickley QC, Michael Parroy QC and Christopher Parker QC.
3PB’s public law practice group sees a great deal of overlap with its crime practice. Head of chambers, Ian Lawrie QC, is practice group head of public law with Stewart Jones QC, another leading practice silk.
3PB also boasts a number of prominent juniors in their field, including leading family barrister Sheena Cassidy and Louis Weston as head of the sports law practice. 3PB also has a specialist mediation group with more than 30 specially trained junior barristers. Stuart Kennedy, Peter Aeberli and practice group head Graeme Sampson are outstanding among them.
