Commercial chambers 3 Verulam Buildings has appointed Nicholas Hill as its new joint senior practice manager.
Hill will join in the new year from 11 King's Bench Walk, where he is first junior clerk. He will replace senior clerk Paul Cooklin who is leaving 3 Verulam Buildings for rival commercial set 3-4 South Square in January.
Christopher Symons QC, joint head of chambers, says: "We didn't have to replace Cooklin because we had a good team but we said if we found the right person we would, and we were fortunate that Nick came along.
"We like Nick enormously and he's had enormous experience coming from 11 King's Bench Walk and Essex Court. He has experience of good chambers behind him and we are sure he'll fit in very well."
Symons says that as well as carrying out the traditional role of a clerk, Hill will be an ambassador for the chambers by discussing clients' needs with them.
Cooklin's departure was seen as a major blow to 3 Verulam Buildings, which had been knocking on the door of the four magic circle sets.
But Symons says: "The people who are the so-called magic circle are conscious of the fact we are now very serious competition for them."
