Francisco Vicuna, who has just stepped down as president of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal, has joined 20 Essex Street’s growing team of arbitrators.
The set, which has historically found its strength in the shipping sector, boasts one of, if not the, largest collection of arbitrators (now 17) at the bar. Arbitrators’ rooms are separated from 20 Essex Street’s main base to avoid conflicts of interest.
The World Bank Tribunal, established in 1979, handles all complaints made by staff of the bank against their employer. Vicuna combined this post with that of professor of international law at the University of Chile.
He has also been involved in many research programmes on behalf of prestigious institutions, including the Latin American Free Trade Association and the Central American Common Market.
