Linklaters has appointed Amsterdam partner Pieter Riemer as its new managing partner for Western Europe, effective today (17 October).
Riemer replaces Jean-Pierre Blumberg, who has reached the end of a four-year term.
Blumberg was previously the local managing partner for Belgium, leading his firm De Bandt van Hecke Lagae & Loesch into its 2002 merger with Linklaters. He will continue in his other role, as co-head of global M&A.
Riemer, also a corporate specialist, was until recently a member of Linklaters’ international board. He joined the firm in 2005 from Allen & Overy, where he was also a partner.
As Western Europe managing partner Riemer will sit on the firm’s executive committee.
In a statement he said: “We’ll continue to invest across the European region in support of our strategy. Jean-Pierre’s appointment as co-head of global M&A is testament to the value we place in the relationships with our increasingly global European client base.”
