  • Great deal for CC.

Links, Slaughters and A&O will be spitting chips.

  • EADS is a long standing and major client of CCs. It is no surprise that they got the mandate. Only surprise is that Matthew Layton is their senior partner on the job as he's a private equity lawyer.

  • more interesting is that while Freshfields seem to have been able to do the whole thing for BAE, CC had to give in to Dutch/French firms doing the foreign stuff. This seems better for Freshfields than it is for CC.

  • If it actually happens this will be the deal of the decade, perhaps the century, so far. Huge, huge deal in terms of UK industrial and defence strategy.

Not exactly. A french first tier firm, Darrois Willey, actually gave the opportunity to CC to do the UK stuff. You may not have noticed Sir, but EADS has some links and some slight interests in France.

So I doubt one could label the legal work that will have to be done in this jurisdiction as just "foreing stuff".
