Linklaters drafted in to advise News Corp's Hackgate committee
Linklaters litigation partner John Turnbull has been instructed to advise News Corp’s management and standards committee, which has the mandate to oversee post-Hackgate investigations.
The committee, chaired by Lord Grabiner QC (18 July 2011), is responsible for all matters related to the News of the World (NoW) phone-hacking scandal and payments made to the police, including police inquiries and the public inquiry led by Lord Justice Leveson (13 July 2011).
News International general manager William Lewis is chairing the committee, alongside head of corporate affairs Simon Greenberg.
Jeffrey Palker, News Corp’s group general counsel for Europe and Asia, is an executive member of the committee, which reports to executive vice president and board director Joel Klein.
Linklaters joins a raft of firms instructed to advise on the fallout from the scandal, including Olswang, which is acting for News International on drawing up a code of practice following allegations by The Guardian that NoW had hacked into the voicemail of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler (5 July 2011).
Linklaters declined to comment.
